The principal aim of this major is to bring up talented individuals
who can contribute to the future of Tenrikyo and to educate successors
to church head ministers.
Students study Tenrikyo theology from four different perspectives:
the study of scriptures, historical studies, the study of the doctrine,
and the study of practical issues. Introduction to Religious Studies
and Introduction to Tenrikyo Theology are required of all students
in the department. The other courses, such as Lecture on The Life
of Oyasama, the Foundress of Tenrikyo, Study of Tenrikyo Scriptures,
Study of Tenrikyo Doctrine, and History of Tenrikyo, are prescribed
as required subjects of Tenrikyo Theology Major. In order to focus
on the practical learning, Church Practice Course is adopted in
the curriculum. In this course organized in cooperation with Tenrikyo
churches in Japan and other countries, students have a chance to
confirm the theoretical study of Tenrikyo faith and practice the
teachings within the actual church life.
Moreover, the departments provide its students with an understanding
of the organic relation between ordinary religious studies and Tenrikyo
theology. That is the reason why many courses of religious studies,
such as History of Religion, Psychological Study of Religion, Sociological
Study of Region, and Philosophy of Religion, are included in the
curriculum.
