Japanese Language Major

Admission Quotas and Deadlines

Ⅰ)The admission quota for the Japanese Language Major is fifteen students per year.

Ⅱ)For enrollment in April 2016, information on quotas and application deadlines is as follows :

FIRST APPLICATION PERIOD

Admission quota for applicants living in Japan: 19 students.

Applications must be submitted by mail or in person from Monday, 12 October through Thursday, 5 November 2015.
Attendance is required for an essay exam and an interview, held on campus on Saturday, 21 November 2015. Notification of the results will be made to the applicant on Thursday, 26 November 2015. Successful applicants must make payment of the entrance fee by Wednesday, 16 December 2015. Spring Semester tuition and other fees, and documents required for the entry process are due by Wednesday, 27 January 2016.


Admission quota for applicants living overseas: Several students

Applications must be submitted by mail or in person no later than Friday, 30 October 2015.

Selection will be based on application documents. Notification of the results will be made to the
applicant on Thursday, 26 November 2015.
Successful applicants must make payment of the entrance fee by Wednesday, 16 December 2015. Spring Semester tuition and other fees, and documents required for the entry process are due by Wednesday, 27 January 2016.


SECOND APPLICATION PERIOD(applications submitted by mail or in person from Friday, 8 January through Friday, 22 January 2016)

Admission quota for applicants living in Japan : 4 students

Attendance is required for an essay exam and an interview, held on campus on Monday, 8 February 2016. Notification of the results will be made to the applicant on Tuesday, 16 February 2016. Successful applicants must submit the entrance fee, Spring Semester tuition and other fees, and documents required for the entry process by Tuesday, 8 March 2015.


THIRD APLICATION PERIOD

Admission quota for applicants living in Japan : Several students

Applications must be submitted by mail or in person from Friday, 12 February through Thursday, 25 February 2016.

Attendance is required for an essay exam and an interview, held on campus on Friday, 4 March 2016. Notification of the results will be made to the applicant on Wednesday, 9 March 2016.Successful applicants must submit the entrance fee, Spring Semester tuition and other fees, and document required for the entry process by Thursday, 17 March 2016.

For applicants living overseas :
Evaluation is based on the application documents.

Ⅳ)For applicants living in Japan, the applicant must fulfill one of the following conditions from numbers (1) -(3), in addition to condition (4). For those applicants applying from overseas, the applicant must either meet condition (1) or its equivalent qualification as recognized by Tenri University, in addition to condition(4).


(1) A bonafide foreign national who has completed, or is scheduled to complete by March 2016, twelve years of elementary and secondary education under a foreign educational system, or the equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

(2) A bonafide foreign national who has finished nine years of education in a foreign country and who has graduated from a Japanese high school, or is scheduled to graduate by March, 2016.

(3) A person recognized by the University as meeting the equivalent of the qualifications given under Item (1) or (2).

(4) A person living outside Japan, who is eligible for a student visa as defined by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, a person holding a residence status of student in Japan, or a person holding a status from which change to student status is possible.

Persons wishing to apply for admission based on Item (3) must first apply to the University for recognition of their qualifications during the following periods: (1)between 20 August and 7 September 2015 for the First Application Period, (2) between 15 October and 13 November 2015 for the Second Application Period, and (3) between 8 January and 18 January 2016 for the Third Application Period

Ⅴ)Application documents (required for submission)

(1) Completed Application Form (supplied by the University).

(2) Diploma/Certificate from the institution last attended, or a letter indicating expected graduation date.

(3) Official transcript from applicant’s high school and/or the institution last attended. In addition, students attending a Japanese language academy, must also submit a transcript or record of progress from that academy.

(4) For applicants living in Japan : a Letter of Recommendation (on University provided form, written in Japanese or English) from either a homeroom teacher, principal, university dean, department chair, professor, instructor, or employer. For applicants living overseas : two Letters of Recommendation.

(5) A passport photo pasted on the form supplied by the University.

(6) For applicants living in Japan : copies of the front and back of the Alien Registration Certificate or Resident Card. For applicants living overseas : a copy of an official document, such as a passport, which certifies the applicant’s nationality.

Ⅵ)The application fee of ¥35,000 must be wired tothe University designated bank account. A Transfer form will be provided.
