Admission Quotas and Deadlines

Ⅰ)The admission quota for the Department of Area Studies, Japanese Studies Course is thirty students per year.

Ⅱ)For enrollment in April 2018, information on quotas and application deadlines are as follows:

FIRST APPLICATION PERIOD

Admission quota for applicants living in Japan: 18 students.

Applicants must be submitted by mail or in person from Tuesday, October 10th through Thursday, November 2nd, 2017.

Attendance is required for an essay exam and an interview, held on campus on Saturday, November 18th, 2017. Notification of the results will be made to the applicant and to his or her guarantor on Friday, November 24th, 2016.

Successful applicants must submit the entrance fee and documents required for the entry process by Thursday, December 14th, 2017. Spring Semester tuition is due by Wednesday, January 24th, 2018.

Admission quota for applicants living overseas: Several students (fluctuates yearly). Selection will be based on application documents. Application deadline is Friday, October 27th, 2017. Notification of the results will be made to the applicant and to his or her guarantor on Friday, November 24th, 2017. Successful applicants must submit the entrance fee and documents required for the entry process by Thursday, December 14th 2016. Spring Semester tuition is due by Wednesday, January 24th, 2018.


SECOND APPLICATION PERIOD
(Applications received by mail, or submitted directly, from Friday, January 5th through Friday, January 19th, 2018)

Admission quota for applicants living in Japan : 9 students

Attendance is required for an essay exam and an interview held on campus on Thursday, February 8th, 2018. Notification of the results will be made to the applicant and to his or her guarantor on Friday, February 16th, 2018. Successful applicants must submit the entrance fee, Spring Semester tuition and other fees and all documents required for the entry process by Thursday, March 8th, 2018.


THIRD APLICATION PERIOD

Admission quota for applicants living overseas: Several students

Applicants must be submitted by mail or in person from Friday, February 9th through Thursday, February 22rd, 2018.

Attendance is required for an essay exam and an interview held on campus on Friday, March 2rd, 2018. Notification of the results will be made to the applicant and to his or her guarantor on Thursday, March 8th, 2018. Successful applicants must submit the entrance fee, Spring Semester tuition and other fees and all documents required for the entry process by Thursday, March 15th, 2018.

For applicants living overseas :
Evaluation is based on the application documents.

Ⅳ)For applicants living in Japan, the applicant must fulfill one of the following conditions from numbers (1) -(3), in addition to condition (4). For those applicants applying from overseas, the applicant must either meet condition (1) or its equivalent qualification as recognized by Tenri University, in addition to condition(4).


(1) A bona fide foreign national who has completed, or is scheduled to complete by March 2018, twelve years of elementary and secondary education under a foreign educational system, or the equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

(2) A bona fide foreign national who has finished nine years of education in a foreign country and who has graduated from a Japanese high school, or is scheduled to graduate by March, 2018.

(3) A person recognized by the University as meeting the equivalent of the qualifications given under Item ⑴ or ⑵.

(4) A person living outside Japan, who is eligible for a student visa as defined by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, a person holding a residence status of student in Japan, or a person holding a status from which change to student status is possible.

Persons wishing to apply for admission based on Item ⑶ must first apply to the University for recognition of their qualifications during the following periods:⑴ between August 22rd and September 8th, 2016 in order to submit during the First Application Period, ⑵ between October 12th and November 10th, 2017 in order to submit during the Second Application Period, and ⑶ between January 6th and January 15th, 2018 for the Third Application Period.

Ⅴ)Application documents (required for submission)


(1) Completed Application Form (supplied by the University).

(2) Diploma/Certificate from the institution last attended, or a letter indicating expected graduation date.

(3) Official transcript from applicant's high school and/or the institution last attended. In addition, students attending a Japanese language academy, must also submit a transcript or record of progress from that academy.

(4) For applicants living in Japan: a Letter of Recommendation (on University provided form, written in Japanese or English) from either a homeroom teacher, principal, university dean, department chair, professor, instructor, or employer.
For applicants living overseas: two Letters of Recommendation.

(5) A passport photo pasted on the form supplied by the University.

(6) For applicants living in Japan: copies of the front and back of the Alien Registration Certificate or Resident Card.
For applicants living overseas: a copy of an official document, such as a passport, which certifies the applicant's nationality.

Ⅵ)The application fee of 35,000 yen must be wired to the University designated bank account. A Transfer form will be provided.
